What Nature may have In Store for your Property?
Here in the northeast we have had to deal with a variety of storms. Summers can be hot and dry increasing the chance for a fire to occur, having an impact on a business or home, or they can be humid potentially forming storm systems that can lead to flooding and the ground to be oversaturated. The winters can be just as brutal with snow and ice. Standing your ground against Mother Nature can be difficult, but there are a few things that can be done, which can help protect your property in tough situations.
Preparing for the Storm to Strike
There are quite a few things a person can do to try and protect their home or business. It also comes down to what tools an individual has at their disposal and how much time one might have to prepare before a storm system rolls on in. Performing a routine check/walkthrough will help you determine what action needs to be taken depending on the kind of weather you are dealing with. If a property has a basement it’s good to check on the water proofing, drainage systems, and condition of the sump pump if there is one installed. Having a battery backup system or a generator can be beneficial during a storm event, which can keep the sump pump operational in case the electric grid goes down. Storm winds can be powerful at times potentially blowing around hazardous debris. Boarding up windows using plywood is a good idea, since it provides additional protection for the glass and the interior of the structure. There are plenty of other things that can assist with protecting your property from disastrous events. These are just a few things that can help if you are curious and want to learn more information on how plan & prepare you can visit the website for New Jersey’s Office of Emergency Management.
Has your Property been affected by a Storm Recently?

Local Storm Affecting the Bridgewater, NJ Area
What Can Be Done To Prevent Storm Damage?
Damage from water during a storm can cause your Bridgewater, NJ home. Thankfully proper maintenance and good habits can help keep the building protected.
Prevention
When it comes to your home it's important to maintain the building envelope. A buildings envelope is the barrier between the indoors and the outdoors. You can determine if something is wrong with the buildings envelope if it allows significant airflow from the exterior of the structure or if there is a lack of airflow it could mean that the buildings envelope is to tight. Several components make up the envelope.
- Roof
- Walls
- Foundation
- Windows
- Doors
Regular maintenance and inspections work hand and hand to keep your building's envelope string and tight. Check for cracks in the walls and foundations and get them repaired. Look for any leaks that may be associated with the roof, along with checking the shingles or other roofing materials are secure. Windows and doors should be aligned and sealed.
Some owners are comfortable with performing the inspection themselves, but you can also hire a professional to do the task. it is important the building be examined regularly to catch minor issues before they become a serious problem.
Cleanup
Sadly, buildings with properly maintained envelopes could still be affected by water damage associated with the storm. it is important to act quickly to try to prevent structural damage along with mold growth that can accompany it.
Call SERVPRO of Bridgewater at (908) 222-2020 and we will be right over to dry the property out as quickly as possible. After any standing water has been removed, there can still be moisture found in porous materials. We will use fans and dehumidifiers to dry the area affected by the storm. Our Experts Discuss Materials That Require Removal After A Flood In Bridgewater

Give our specialists a call anytime at (908) 222-2020.
What Materials Require Removal After Bridgewater Flooding
With a fully licensed team of contracting specialists, our SERVPRO professionals are more prepared than many other restoration teams to navigate your Bridgewater home through flood recovery. Because many structural elements and construction materials can become affected by standing water and excessive moisture during these disasters, homeowners must understand that avoiding any controlled demolition and reconstruction is unlikely. We work to limit these tasks, though we seek to inform our customers about what areas are most at risk for requiring build-back.
Flood damage in Bridgewater homes can spread quickly from the point of penetration throughout the entire main floor or subterranean level of the house. Depending on how flooding occurs, varying construction materials and structural elements can lie in the path of migrating damage. An initial assessment, including a complete understanding of the spread and severity of water damage, gets performed to focus the attention of our contractors on what materials might require controlled demolition tactics and later reconstruction.
Flooring
Between hardwood, linoleum, vinyl, and carpeting, any of these options can get severely damaged by prolonged exposure to standing water. Once deterioration or bloating of these materials has begun, the best remaining solution is to allow our SERVPRO contractors to remove them.
Wood Trim
Saturated trim, especially when contamination is a threat, may often get removed. If drywall and insulation get removed from the specific area, the trim is also likely to need to be torn out. We can even remove this baseboard when drywall is salvageable through careful use of a putty knife and pry bar to avoid damaging the sheetrock behind it.
Drywall
Drywall is one of the most common options for interior construction and can become unsalvageable within 24 hours of direct exposure to standing water. Flood cuts can remove the damp portions of the wallboard, leaving them dry and stable areas of the constructed surface intact.
Especially when contamination is a concern, homeowners should prepare themselves for the likelihood of controlled demolition and needed reconstruction after a flood loss. Our SERVPRO of Bridgewater can help to limit these costs and make the process as efficient as possible. Give our specialists a call anytime at (908) 222-2020.
Why Regular Gutter Maintenance is Necessary to Help Prevent Water Damage in Warren
6/15/2022 (Permalink)
Schedule gutter cleaning as regular home maintenance to prevent water from damaging your home's structure.
Flood Damage Cleanup Needed Due to Lack of Gutter Maintenance in Warren
One water-damage-causing home maintenance chore that gets pushed off and not done frequently enough is cleaning the gutters. The structure relies on the gutter system to direct the flow of rainwater away, and when that system is not working correctly, in-home flooding has the potential to occur.
When SERVPRO technicians handle flood damage cleanup in Warren homes, they scope the premises to define areas of weakness as to why the damage occurred. Then, they use moisture detection equipment to ascertain the migration path of the water requiring removal.
Frequently Seen Issues with Gutters
A common occurrence with clogged or damaged gutters results in water directed towards the property rather than away from it. Another regularly seen problem is the weight of water (or ice) in a gutter, causing it to pull away from the roof, which causes leaking.
Fast Water Extraction Potentially Reduces Loss
The minute water invades a home, the clock starts ticking for permanent damage. Rapid extraction is vital to limiting water loss to the structure and contents. SERVPRO technicians use different types of equipment to pull deeply embedded water out of the carpet and other specialized water removal tasks.
Controlled Demolition Assists With Drying
Water-damaged sheetrock and delaminated flooring do not have restoration potential and require removal. Cutting sheetrock away for drying the structure is an exacting process where technicians measure several inches above the water line and cleanly remove it. This action opens the structure for complete airflow within wall cavities and floor joists as needed.
Preparing for Reconstruction
As technicians perform water loss cleanup, they notate controlled demo actions and any repairs required. SERVPRO can offer clients restoration services and the reconstruction of any necessary water loss areas with their general Contractor License. In the case of clogged gutters causing damage to the home, technicians offer solutions such as covers or protective screening to prevent the issue from reoccurring.
SERVPRO of Bridgewater at (908) 222-2020 is ready to restore and rebuild homes with flood damage. Technicians are available 24/7, so no time is lost returning a house to its pre-damaged condition.
Our Response Teams Will Arrive Quickly To Your Bridgewater Home After A Flood Disaster
5/12/2022 (Permalink)
If your home experiences a storm damage incident, you need to call our crew immediately.
How SERVPRO Makes Bridgewater Flood Damage Cleanup and Rebuilding Process Seamless
Of all the home disasters that hit a property, flood damage is one of the worst. Groundwater carries a category three rating as a biohazardous Black Water. We advise homeowners not to come into contact with it until our team arrives on-site to perform testing to determine the nature of any toxins, contaminants, or sewage present in the floodwater. Often, no testing is required.
Even though the SERVPRO emergency response team arrives quickly at Bridgewater homes with flood damage, the water in many cases has migrated within the structure, and there is little standing water. We test for harmful elements present and use our moisture detection equipment to scope the premises and discover the areas of excessive moisture. Water extraction efforts immediately begin so we can save as much of the property as possible from prolonged exposure to dampness.
Common actions during cleanup of flood damage include:
- Using flood cuts to stop groundwater from wicking further into sheetrock and letting a more substantial amount of air into the wall cavity for efficient drying
- Extracting water from carpeting before it is cut into strips for removal
- Removal of baseboards as needed for water extraction and thorough drying
- Drilling weep holes as needed for drainage.
Our goal is always to assist homeowners with saving as much water-damaged property as possible rather than have them incur the cost of replacement. We accomplish this through our proprietary methods while adhering to the best practices taught through the Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC.)
After drying, disinfection, and treating the property for odors, our technicians give the homeowner a listing of the restoration services completed, which includes both a detailed report plus before and after photographs to assist with expediting insurance claims. We also advise any repairs needed to return the home to its pre-damaged condition. Because our SERVPRO location has a General Contractor License #13VH05228000, we can make the cleanup and reconstruction of the property one seamless process, lessening the stress of the mitigation process for the homeowner.
When flood damage hits your property, call SERVPRO of Bridgewater at (908) 222-2020. We have the equipment and expertise to make your water loss "Like it never even happened."

SERVPRO of Bridgewater prepares every flood season for the fast and efficient remediation of your home’s structure and contents.
How A Pack-Out Streamlines Flood Damage Remediation In Bridgewater
Flash flooding the past few months brings home the need for fast and effective remediation efforts in Bridgewater. Heavy rains and the overflowing of local waterways put many homes in harm’s way. Our skilled and well-equipped crews employ a variety of strategies to protect your property from progressive damage, and we have an effective way to speed the flood remediation as well as manage damage to the contents of your home.
Choosing to complete a pack-out is time well-spent when you experience flood damage to your Bridgewater abode. We use a detailed and digitized Contents Claim Inventory System (CCIS) to ensure we track every article removed. Once the contents in the flooded spaces are removed, our Institute of Inspection Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC) trained technicians can focus on their specialties, either removing water, cleaning, and drying out structural components, or bringing your furnishings and personal possessions back to life.
When our crew can concentrate on water removal, your home’s lower levels are dried out swiftly. SERVPRO crews at your home use pump and wanded extractors to pull the majority of the standing water out of the structure. When we can do this without the need to work around and move objects, the project proceeds faster.
Because floodwaters are by definition contaminated, SERVPRO arranges for containment and appropriate disposal. We then clean up and disinfect soiled surfaces with an EPA-registered antimicrobial. Employees with Applied Structural Drying Technician (ASDT) certification determined drying goals and set up a perimeter of air movers, heaters, and dehumidifiers to bring moisture levels down to normal in the flooded spaces.
Meanwhile, at our production facility, other technicians clean, dry, and restore the contents packed out. We work with your insurance company, providing documentation as we evaluate and process your documents, clothing, linens, decor, furnishings, and more. SERVPRO uses resources like freeze-drying and contained drying chambers to bring as many of the packed-out items back to their function and appearance as possible.
SERVPRO of Bridgewater prepares every flood season for the fast and efficient remediation of your home’s structure and contents. Call us as soon as the waters rise at (908) 222-2020.

Homes in Basking Ridge and Surrounding Areas Can Face Structural Issues as the Result of Stormwater
Homes in Basking Ridge needing emergency water remediation services after a storm can have more problems than one might think. As time lapses, the negative effects of flooding worsen, and structural elements can be in grave danger if homeowners don’t act quickly.
To handle flood damage in Basking Ridge, call SERVPRO and let our specially trained staff take care of it all. When microbes are allowed to grow and spread through your home, you might find some of the following evidence taking up residence in your house-

- A musty odor permeates every surface and is resistant to household air fresheners
- Discoloration of walls and ceilings, indicating water damage
Our SERVPRO team relies on advanced equipment to assess the problem to achieve a full water cleanup and restoration. Thermo-hygrometers and thermal imaging help us find where water is hiding and how moisture spreads within building materials. Based on their readings, we strategically place air movers, dehumidifiers, and other specialty drying equipment to encourage water evaporation and restore optimal humidity levels. In many of the jobs we perform, removing certain items is necessary, and our team handles their disposal according to relevant environmental regulations. As needed, we can also provide move-out services to preserve your belongings in an off-site location while we dry, clean, and disinfect your home.

What Are the Goals of Controlled Demolition as Part of Basking Ridge Flood Damage Restoration?
8/21/2021 (Permalink)
Storm damage to your roof is no DIY project. SERVPRO has you covered for all storm damage restoration services from start to finish.
SERVPRO Strategies to Remediate House and Basement Flooding in Basking Ridge are Always Research-Based Best Practices
Torrential rain, exterior destruction, and overland flood damage in Basking Ridge is a seasonal risk. When your home is affected, your stress level, already high, might go through your leaking roof from the storms when remediation experts recommend the tear-out of building materials.
Why Does SERVPRO Rely on Controlled Demolition for Water Damage Repairs?
We presume the flooding in your Basking Ridge home harbors bacteria, viruses, and other microbes. Floodwaters can contain:
- Sewage from street drain overflows
- Chemicals from industrial sites, landscaping, and pavement
- Animal and insect waste
This Category 3 water exposes your family to health risks and your structure to progressive deterioration if not removed thoroughly, dried out completely, and disinfected with EPA-registered products. Removing wet building materials in a planned manner facilitates the release of trapped contaminated water and permits effective structural drying and application of antimicrobials.
What Kinds of Controlled Demolition Can Basking Ridge Storm-Related Flood Victims Expect?
The SERVPRO crew uses a broad range of strategies to release the water for collection and disposal.
- Flood cuts slice through and remove drywall between studs several inches above the waterline.
- Weep holes punched through bulging surfaces on walls or near ceiling leaks allow water to drain out in a measured way, minimizing the risk of structural collapse.
- Holes drilled behind baseboards or in mortar joints give water trapped behind plaster, bricks, blocks, or stucco a pathway out.
The access gained allows us to pump or extract water and then direct warm, dehumidified air into the cavities to accelerate drying. Drying inhibits mold damage and increases the odds of retaining much of the structure, “Like it never even happened.”
SERVPRO of Bridgewater performs controlled demolition during flood restoration to deliver successful outcomes that avoid lingering secondary damage. Call us at (908) 222-2020 for a prompt assessment and professional assistance.

Flood damage restoration is a job for a professional outfit. SERVPRO has you covered from start to finish.
Using Humidity to Control Microbial Growth after Flood Damage in Bridgewater
In dealing with excess quantities of water that enter the home, there are two primary methods. The first is an open system that establishes a natural airflow throughout the affected area by opening windows or doors. This method is not always appropriate, especially during the colder times of the year when flood damages are most likely to occur. The second method is a closed system which we use more often when dealing with private property damages.
A closed system service for flood damage in Bridgewater homes involves cordoning off the area of damage using physical barriers like plastic sheeting. At SERVPRO, we call this establishing a contained drying zone which allows us to concentrate our efforts on an area by area basis, thereby increasing efficiency. Plastic sheeting also prevents humid air from circulating into and modifying previously unaffected parts of the home.
Once a drying zone is created, we can use a combination of equipment to help draw out moisture. Hard floors and furnishings can often take on moisture after prolonged exposure. This phenomenon occurs because water naturally migrates from wet to dry. Moisture that is absorbed beneath the surface of a material can be problematic as it encourages microbial growth like mold.
Using the same water moving from wet to dry, SERVPRO technicians can draw moisture from saturated materials. We do this by controlling the relative humidity in a specific area using desiccant dehumidifiers. This equipment uses chemicals to reduce moisture levels in the air to below 40 GPP. Moisture residing inside fabrics or hard floors are then drawn out into the drier air.
To encourage the process of pulling moisture from inside material, your SERVPRO technician can deploy rapid air movers. These blast hot air at a surface level, causing water residues to evaporate. We can measure how effective this process is by using moisture meters and thermal hygrometers. In a closed system, SERVPRO can control humidity with dehumidifiers, thereby reducing the likelihood of expensive secondary damages common with water and flood damages.
Controlling humidity in property involves both expertise and equipment. Contact SERVPRO of Bridgewater at (908) 222-2020 to arrange service.

The town of Bridgewater is in the County of Somerset, New Jersey. Widely considered a bedroom town, Bridgewater's proximity to the broader metropolitan area of New York ensures that many residents work in the big city and live just outside. The city was initially purchased from the Lenape tribes and was a stronghold for Continental forces and settlers in the early 17th and 18th centuries. Following the American Revolutionary War, this town was incorporated into the United States by 1798. The first period of Bridgewater's history focuses on rural farming communities. However, the economic growth of pharmaceutical and financial industries in the nearby Raritan valley ensured population growth and sustainable wealth was brought to this part of New Jersey. The Raritan train line that runs through Bridgewater makes it an ideal commuting destination for New York City workers. As a result, the township has a growing population of 44,464 people and offers progressive food, nightlife, and entertainment.
The success of Bridgewater's population largely relies on big business. Many Fortune 500 companies have headquarters here, with French pharmaceutical company Sanofi among the leading firms to take up residence at Corporate Drive. How SERVPRO Continues to Protect Historic Bridgewater Properties from Flood Damage
12/8/2020 (Permalink)
Flood damage can be harmful to ones health. SERVPRO team will to rid your home of harm or foul. Their technicians are qualified for these issues.
Flooding can be a threat to homes, businesses, and historic structures through Bridgewater.
There is little disputing the historical place and importance of Bridgewater in the country's formation and its continued growth over the centuries. With a settlement dating back to 1749, many structures and homes have historical significance even before America declared its independence from its British rulers in 1776. As a leading restoration company in the area, our SERVPRO team can get tasked to preserve these properties to their original grandeur after flooding and other losses.
Creation of Bridgewater
Building along the Raritan River made sense for settlements, specifically those like Bridgewater that became one of the earliest developments in New Jersey. This created regular trade routes for bartering and the growth of the rural community. Initially, the area was chartered by George II in Great Britain. Much like other towns and cities throughout the northeast, the name Bridgewater comes from a village of the same name in Somerset County in England. Despite the city being created for and by the King of England, it would serve as one of the influential sites for the American Revolution that would win the United States their independence.
Middlebrook Encampment
Illustrating this point is the Middlebrook Encampment nearby. In 1777, and for a prolonged stay between 1778 and 1779, this fortress served as a home for a regiment of the Continental Army stationed to overtake or protect important cities and settlements like New Brunswick. The placement of this encampment created a natural barrier that protected troops and allowed them to keep a constant watch on stationed British forces across the field. Much of this property has been deemed vital to the National Register of Historic Places.
Today, the encampment continues to be a landmark worth visiting. Every year on July 4th, a program happens at the site where the Declaration of Independence is read and other notable occurrences. The accessibility of this encampment can show those interested in the history of the Continental Army a look into some other strategic mind of one of history's most respected generals, George Washington.
Van Horne House
Another historic site that exists from the time that Bridgewater first was chartered by George II is the Van Horne House. The structure exists on East Main Street and was initially built for Phillip Van Horne. Much like the Middlebrook Encampment, this property would also serve to be a stronghold for American forces overtaking British rule in the area. This home would be a temporary headquarters for American General Benjamin Lincoln. This location would also be where Lincoln would flee from when an overwhelming force of British troops would bear down on Bound Brook nearby.
During a second occupation of the Middlebrook Encampment, the Van Horne home would again serve as temporary quarters and a planning station for an American General, William Alexander – also known as Lord Stirling for his noble Scottish birthright. It would not be until the early 2000s when the site would be recognized for its place in American History and its distinct architectural treasure by the National Register of Historic Places.
Van Veghten House
In the Finderne section of the Bridgewater Township, this historic house predates the chartered settlement. During the prolonged encampment in Middlebrook, this massive structure would be a makeshift base of operations for one of George Washington's most trusted commanders, Nathanael Greene. It would be the son of the home's original owner that would grant the property for use by the Continental Army, namely as lodging for Quartermaster Greene and his wife.
Today, the property is owned by the Somerset County Historical Society. It has been turned into a living museum and library for historians and those seeking a look into colonial life and the significance of the property to the American Revolution.
Modern Growth of Bridgewater
Beyond the tens of thousands of residents of the city, another area where Bridgewater has grown immensely over the past century is with retail options. While the presence of small shops and stores throughout the town and the surrounding areas has always been a staple of the economy, the area began to thrive with shopping centers and malls. An excellent example of this is the Bridgewater Commons, a nearly 1 million square foot facility and grounds that boast more than 170 stores and services and three anchor locations.
In 2006, The Village at Bridgewater Commons opened as a more casual shopping experience attached to the Bridgewater Commons primary structure. The anchors of this open-air portion are Crate & Barrel and Maggiano's Little Italy.
Realizing the Threats of Flooding for Bridgewater Homes
With the expectancy of violent storms and flash flooding scenarios, any homes and businesses caught in the path could suffer considerable structural damages. In 2011, for example, the area was struck by Hurricane Irene, which left substantial flooding in several neighborhoods. This would also cause the flooding of significant commercial properties, causing chemicals to leak into the Raritan River. The fast response of SERVPRO to flood damage in Bridgewater homes can reduce overall loss and get you back into the property quicker after flood exposure.
Because we are also experienced general contractors, we can offer effective emergency services beginning as soon as we arrive. These contractors can begin muck-out cleanup to eliminate debris and reduce the concentration of harmful contaminants and hazards. These building trade professionals can also start vital efforts like a controlled demolition to remove and discard materials and contents directly exposed to known contaminants.
Standing water is another concern for our experienced restoration technicians, so we must use multiple tools to address these conditions. Natural flooding often comes with debris and solids present in the standing water, which leaves the removal of surface pooling to machines like trash pumps and wet vacuums.
Knowing what steps must get taken to address flooding in your home can show the importance of securing professional recovery services like our SERVPRO of Bridgewater team as soon as possible. You can reach us anytime at (908) 222-2020.
What Factors Determine the Repair and Replacement Costs for Bridgewater Home Basement Flood?

IICRC Certified Restoration Technicians at SERVPRO Provide Flood Damage Cleanup for Bridgewater Homeowners
Home floods, especially those from natural events like ground floods, can prove much more costly for Bridgewater homeowners than clean or grey water counterparts. Clean and greywater damages cost an estimated $3.75 to $4.50 per square foot, according to FIXR data. Blackwater, on the other hand, features significant sanitary concerns for occupants and can cost as much as $7.00 per square foot.
SERVPRO performs flood damage mitigation and sanitation for Bridgewater homeowners that return their properties to a preloss state that is clean and safe to occupy once more. This firm is accredited by the Institute of Inspection Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC), which sets up-to-date benchmarks for the restoration industry. SERVPRO has served communities since 1967 with timely and effective disaster mitigation and restoration services.
What Factors Can Affect How Much Flood Damage Repair Costs Homeowners?
There are various factors to take into account for home flooding repair estimate, especially in the event of a basement flood. These factors can include:
• The area in which you live and the cost of materials and labor can affect available prices.
• The presence of black water and the extent of the flood damage also affect costs.
• Restoration expenses can also vary depending on how much needs to be repaired rather than restored in your Bridgewater home. The cost-effectiveness of either depends on the material in question. Many items, such as sheetrock and upholstery, typically require replacement after a flood.
SERVPRO coordinates closely with both property owners and insurance adjusters for the sake of the following:
• Streamlining the claims filing process.
• Determining the best course of action for repairing or replacing salvageable structural materials and belongings.
What Tips Should Homeowners Keep in Mind for Basement Flood Cleanup?
Because home floods can be costly, with just one inch of floodwater leading to thousands of dollars in damages and repair costs, it can be tempting to try to fix it on your own to save on expenses. However, unlike a clean water situation, in which light mitigation with consumer-grade products can be relatively safe, black water brings with it a plethora of sanitary concerns that make a “do-it-yourself” approach inadvisable.
Do not clean up floodwaters. Ground floods bring in a variety of contaminants, including:
• Sewage and pests.
• Chemical runoff and residues.
• Sharp objects and unsafe debris.
Contact a professional restoration team like SERVPRO for rapid response cleanup and mitigation.
• Avoid contact with floodwaters if the electricity is still running. Attempting to shut off your breakers in a flooded utility room can put you at risk for an electrical shock. Instead, contact your utility provider for assistance with safe power shutoff.
• Stay out of flooded rooms when possible. Not only does the presence of contaminated floodwaters make going down to a flooded basement unsafe, but potential mold growth can potentially create health effects for occupants. Restoration technicians use personal protection equipment (PPE) to maximize safety on the job.
How Does SERVPRO’s Moisture Extraction Save Flooded Basements?
SERVPRO technicians focus on sanitation and thorough moisture extraction before drying a flood-damaged structure. Extraction is performed with a variety of tools, including both portable and truck-mounted extraction units. The type of extraction devices needed depends on the amount and type of water damage present in your home.
• Portable extractors can perform 140 inches of water lift at a time. In comparison, truck-mounted units can reach 185 to 198 inches of water lift.
• Portable units feature five- to 12-gallon tanks for waste collection, while a truck-mounted extractor can hold a minimum of 60 gallons to well over 100. Wastewater is disposed of in treated sewers, like toilets, unless the homeowner has a septic system on the property.
• Submersible, gas-powered sump pumps are ideal in conditions where floodwaters are more than two inches deep, and there are no solid contaminants in the water.
• SERVPRO technicians can also provide power sources if electricity is inaccessible in your Bridgewater home after a flood.
Thorough moisture extraction is a must for making structural drying with air movers and dehumidifiers more efficient. EPA-registered biocides are also instrumental in removing contaminants and remediating microbial growth before structural drying begins. Salvageable belongings can be moved off-site in what is known as a “pack out” for sanitation and restoration.
SERVPRO of Bridgewater is proud to say that We’re Faster to Any Size Disaster so that homeowners can enjoy their properties in a preloss state once more. Contact your local mitigation team at (908) 222-2020 to get started within hours of your initial contact.
Can I Protect My Home from Storm Damage?
9/9/2020 (Permalink)
Storms are frequent here and can bring flooding. Should floodwaters invade your home, SERVPRO is always on call!
Bridgewater Residents Count on SERVPRO to Address Devastation and Flood Damage Brought on By Storms
Excessive groundwater flooding after a sudden storm often brings notable destruction, mainly if the water infiltrates your interior on any level. You could potentially have damage to your gutters and roofing while also taking a hit to your basement or ground floor. Any standing water left to fester for too long brings harmful contamination and pressure build up on your walls and structural elements. These are just some of the reasons why it is better to be prepared to protect your Bridgewater home from damage. To start with, you can keep SERVPRO's number handy so that you have trained professionals on the scene quickly to begin cleanup and restoration efforts.
Lessening Flood Impact on Your Home
After calling SERVPRO to assist with Bridgewater's flood damage, we send out our fully-stocked Green Fleet to start the assessment. This initial phase is critical, as it helps us determine the level of damage to formulate a plan for removing water and drying every area affected. With your phone call, you can count on us for:
- A quick response from our crew, arriving in as little as four hours after your initial call for help.

- Quality, dependable work to restore your flood damaged home to preloss condition so that everything is, "Like it never even happened."
Why Do You Have to Move Some of My Belongings?
Depending on the situation, it might be best that we perform pack-out services. A pack-out is when we carefully pack up some contents to bring them off-site for drying, cleaning, or safe storage, speeding up the restoration project while also freeing up room for our crew to work. Our technicians follow protocols to inventory your possessions, including information on the rooms they came from and the condition during packing. This process is another way to ensure coverage should anything become damaged in transit.
Is My Carpeting Salvageable After a Flood Incident?
The contaminants often found in flood water in Bridgewater can lead to potential health hazards, so all areas impacted must be treated carefully. Our skilled technicians know whether the carpeting and padding below can be thoroughly cleaned, then dried, or if all of it should get replaced. In many interior flooding situations, the carpet and carpet padding get removed with particular attention paid to the subfloor below. Carpeting saturated by floodwater often becomes delaminated or loses backing, then turns into a prime source for musty odors. Removing the carpet altogether allows our team to dry the subfloor to help inhibit mold and mildew growth.
How Does Drying Work After Extraction?
We make sure that we remove all water from your home, taking extra measures to ensure no moisture gets left behind. We then put powerful equipment in place to speed up the drying phase to restore your interior back to normal humidity levels. Just a few of the drying equipment we use for water incidents include:
- Industrial fans
- Centrifugal air movers
- Dehumidifiers, and more
Using these tools in unison, our crew can maintain airflow that allows us to dry your furnishings, flooring, walls, and other affected areas.
Should we find water seeped behind the baseboards or walls, we have specialized structural drying equipment at our disposal. We can force the warm air into hard to reach areas and wall cavities, which are known for trapping moisture. Our trucks also come equipped with various attachments that help us redirect, filter, and manipulate airflow.
Do I Need to Worry About Foul, Damp Odors?
As part of our water restoration efforts, we take the time to address foul odors' potential throughout the home. Once extraction and drying wraps up, we work to sanitize and deodorize the work zone with a variety of tools, such as
- Air scrubbers
- Thermal fogging
- Air filtration devices (AFD), and more
AFDs help to control contaminants in the air and work by layering filters to capture particles and debris. These devices also include a HEPA filter and our Odor-Cleanz filter, which allows us to achieve optimum results for indoor air quality (IAQ) and the elimination of musty odors.
Do I Need to Worry About Mold?
After a flood event in your home, you can rest assured that SERVPRO has the training necessary to inspect your interior for signs of mold colonization. We ensure that our cleanup, drying, and sanitization plan includes treating surfaces with EPA-registered antimicrobial agents to prevent mold growth from setting in.
When you need rapid, reliable flood damage services, we are here to help 24/7 at SERVPRO of Bridgewater. Call us at (908) 222-2020, and we can send out a crew to get to work on an assessment as soon as possible.

How Bad is the Flood Damage in My Bridgewater House?
4/16/2020 (Permalink)
Flood damage can result anywhere in your home. Call the professionals at SERVPRO today for remediation assistance.
Our SERVPRO Team Has Advanced Discovery Tools to Identify Moisture and Water Damage to Dry Your Home Quickly.
It might not always be as apparent as you might think when your Bridgewater home is suffering widespread effects of penetrating floodwater. While you can see the areas on the surface that have become affected by the intruding threat, you cannot tell how materials and structural cavities have become affected as well. By leaving these areas unchecked and unresolved, you can welcome harmful secondary effects like mold growth or structural deterioration.
Flood damage to Bridgewater homes is rarely only the intruding water that you can see. Identifying the full scope of the damage involves sophisticated tools and dedicated personnel of our SERVPRO team trained to assess what work needs to happen and which tools can accomplish these tasks. The proper blend of job scoping, and moisture detection technology can ensure that drying and extraction processes resolve the issues entirely.
Is Job Scoping a Part of Flood Recovery?
Scoping is a vital element to every loss recovery job that our professionals undertake. Through advanced software like DryBook, we can catalog damaged contents and areas of the property that need to get addressed. The intentions of spending this initial time evaluating the condition of the house are to reduce adverse conditions like:
Exposure of floodwater to many of the construction materials in your home can lead to situations where these materials begin to weaken. Prolonged exposure to sensitive and absorbent materials like wood flooring and drywall can lead to scenarios where there is no other choice but to remove these elements and replace them at a later point.
Reducing the spread of water damage can help to better protect the structural elements and the contents of your home as much as possible. We have intricate tools and advanced technologies that can help to identify the current positioning of moving water and track the path of its migration from the source.
Job scoping often details the damage to your personal belongings and items throughout the house. In many situations, it is possible to clean and restore these possessions, but that is a determination that can get made preliminarily during the scoping. The condition of these contents determines whether they can get cleaned and stored on-site or if they need to get relocated to our nearby SERVPRO warehouse.
Natural flooding can welcome threats like contamination to your home. Storm damage flooding like holes in the roof or missing siding does not often come with the threat of bacterial contamination threats. Water coming in from floor drains or pouring in from the ground floor gets considered to be on par with a biohazardous situation.
What Tools Can Identify Moisture Damage After a Flood?
Many tools play a specific role in identifying the spread and severity of water losses after a flood. Taking note of the condition of your home beyond the surface materials can ensure that all of the moisture gets dried up and that the appropriate steps occur to clean and disinfect exposed structural elements like wood framing when necessary.
Identifying moisture pockets does not fall to one tool or system alone. We have multiple techniques and scientific devices designed to help, including:
- Surface Moisture Meters
- Hygrometers
- Thermal Imagery
- Probing Moisture Detection Equipment
How Does SERVPRO Dry My Flood-Damaged Home?
Drying is one of the most critical approaches to our entire restoration process, as failure to adequately achieve this can lead to even greater damages for your property. We have multiple tools that we can rely on to accomplish this often substantial task after a flood, and these include:
High-velocity air movers are among the staples of sufficient drying for your flooded property. Centrifugal air movers are vital in removing moisture from specific positions on a damaged structural surface while axial machines address moisture in an open environment.
- Positive Pressure Systems
Structural cavities can often be a place where moisture and dampness can exist after surface conditions have returned to normal. Once these moisture pockets get identified, we can utilize positive pressure systems to introduce heated blasts of air through multiple hoses into the wall cavity. Success for this machine reduces the need for removal.
Moisture removal tools like dehumidifiers help to regulate humidity in the house. Reducing humid conditions can help to maximize the drying production of air movers and other drying tools.
- Portable Electric Heaters
Regulating the temperature of damp surfaces and environments that need to get dried can help to increase evaporation. We use portable electric heaters to increase temperatures in drying zones.
Things can feel uncertain and stressful after a flood, but our SERVPRO of Bridgewater team can help. We have confident and experienced employees available 24/7. Give us a call today at (908) 222-2020.
Hillsborough Residents: We Specialize in Storm Damage Cleanup

Production Technician extracting water from the carpet.
Snow and ice can cause damage after the storm has passed.
Once snow builds up on a roof, the weight can stress the structure and create openings. Heat can escape through cracks and melt the snow, causing water to leak down into the house. In another situation, the snow remains frozen at the time, but once the weather warms, melting snow will begin to leak. Depending on the size of the opening, the amount of snow present, and the location of the damage, there can be anything from one ceiling spot to water travelling down inside the walls, affecting upper and lower floors. Ceilings, walls, floors, and contents can all be affected, and it is important to stop the source as soon as possible by removing the snow and fixing the roof damage. As soon as the source is stopped, SERVPRO will be on site to remove the water and save as much of the affected structure and contents as possible.
After an early February snowstorm, a church in Hillsborough, NJ, discovered a leak in their classroom ceiling. Their roof had recently been replaced and the contractor had to return to shovel some of the snow off the over-stressed structure. As soon as the source of the leak (the snow) had been removed, their facilities manager called SERVPRO of Northeast Somerset County. Once we were on site our crew got to work assessing what had been affected using our moisture meters.
The affected section of the ceiling had to be removed due to water staining. Part of the walls were too wet to be saved and once removed allowed access to the structure. We extracted the water from and sanitized the carpet. We then put our drying equipment, air movers and dehumidifiers, in place for a few days. When we returned, all the affected area was dry.
With our fast storm response and using our quick and thorough drying process, we were able to save the carpet and most of the structure. Finally, we removed the equipment and cleaned and deodorized the carpet. With that, the church was able to resume use of the room.
During heavy winter storms, property and home owners should be conscious of the weight of snow, particularly on flat or shallow-angle roofs. However, if despite your best efforts you find water where it shouldn’t be, call SERVPRO of Bridgewater! 908-222-2020
